Kapehan Night: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - December 5, 2017

Many Filipinos loosely use the term “obsessive-compulsive” to describe someone who is meticulous and very thorough. This very casual use of the terms obsession and compulsion must not be confused with an actual obsessive-compulsive disorder which is already a worrisome and often uncontrolled condition. Although nagging thoughts or worries can be observed in many people, these should be carefully differentiated from the ordinary tensions and stresses that routinely appear throughout life. It is important to understand that people who are fixated on an issue (such as cleanliness or avoiding disease) or those who have traits of being a perfectionist do not necessarily have an OCD.
